Guide: Jailbreaking Apple TV 4K
Introduction to Jailbreaking Apple TV 4K
Jailbreaking the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TVs is a slightly different process due to the distinct operation of tvOS compared to traditional Apple TV software. It’s important to note that the jailbreak method for Apple TV 4/4K only works on devices running tvOS 12 – 12.1.1. Those who have updated to tvOS 12.2 or later will not be able to jailbreak, as Apple has patched the jailbreak technique in later OS updates.
Steps to Jailbreaking Apple TV 4K
If you meet the requirements, follow the steps below to jailbreak your Apple TV:
- Download Cydia Impactor and the ChimeraTV jailbreak file on your Mac or PC.
- Connect your Apple TV to your computer using a USB-C to USB-A cable. If you don’t have one, you can purchase it on Amazon or similar platforms.
- Launch Cydia Impactor and drag the ChimeraTV file onto the application to load it. Then click “Start” to initiate the installation process.
- Cydia Impactor will prompt you to enter your Apple ID and password. These credentials are necessary to sign the app and allow it to be installed on your Apple TV. Using your personal Apple ID should be sufficient, but for added security, you can create an alternative Apple ID specifically for use with Cydia Impactor.
- Cydia Impactor will install the ChimeraTV app onto your Apple TV, preparing it for the jailbreak. Once the installation is complete, disconnect your Apple TV from your computer and reconnect it to your TV.
- On your Apple TV, locate the ChimeraTV app and open it. Within the ChimeraTV app, select your preferred options for the jailbreak and choose “Do it!”
- The jailbreak process will commence and may take a few minutes to complete. Once finished, you should see an on-screen message stating, “Success! Your TV has been liberated!” If the process fails and the device reboots, simply retry the process, as it may require multiple attempts to successfully jailbreak the Apple TV.
Important Notes to Jailbreaking Apple TV 4K
Please note that jailbreaking your Apple TV involves modifying the device’s software, which can lead to various risks, including security vulnerabilities and instability. Additionally, it may void your warranty and violate Apple’s terms of service. Proceed with caution and understand the potential consequences before undertaking this process.
